Gibbs and Motley named EJW Fellows

This prestigious post-graduation, two-year fellowship “seeks to create opportunities for lawyers to transform their passion for equal justice into a lifelong commitment to public service.” Gibbs will work at Brown’s Promise through the Southern Education Foundation, while Motley will work at the Georgia Legal Services Corporation. Munger and Favro recognized with Pro Bono Publico honors
Third-year law students Emily W. Munger and Mason C. Favro received 2026 NALP PSJD Pro Bono Publico honors. Munger was named the overall winner for her holistic effort to bring a name change clinic to Athens. Favro was selected as a Merit Distinction Finalist. This highly competitive, national award recognizes upper-level law students for their “extraordinary commitment to law-related public service work [that] contributes to the overall growth of pro bono culture within their law school and their broader community.” Notably, UGA Law students received two of the three national awards presented by NALP PSJD this year.
Honors Fellows Program sends students to rural Georgia
This past summer, eight students worked in district attorney and public defender offices as well as in judicial chambers located in rural Georgia. They were supported by stipends provided through the School of Law’s Georgia Honors Fellows Program, which was created in 2024 with both public and private resources to help address the scarcity of prosecutors and public defenders in Georgia communities without adequate access to legal services.
The rising second- and third-year students were based in the Appalachian, Ocmulgee, Oconee, Middle and Northern circuits as well as in Burke County.
