Students advancing communities

First-gen students help each other succeed

The First-generation Student Association works to foster community among this cohort of students and encourages upper-level students to help first-year students find their way in law school.

Gathered together are some of the 2025–26 FGSA leadership team members: (front row, l. to r.) Nada Panjwani, Kieley Gayle, (middle row, l. to r.) Cade Mataya, Henry Stoneback, Ane Ferri Victoria, (back row, l. to r.) Mason Gonsisko and Madison Tilton.

One key way they support each other is through programming and events intended to assist first-gen students in getting acquainted with “all things” law school and to know whom they can go to with their questions.

During the 2025–26 academic year, FGSA organized events like “Lunch with the Dean,” career-oriented Q&A sessions and a variety of social events.

First-generation students also benefit from the law school’s First Start Scholars Program, which offers time-management and organization techniques, and one-on-one meetings covering a range of topics, including budgets, study plans, academic advising and course selection.
