Regional Champions: National Trial Competition

Third-year students Nick Lewis (left) and Noah Nix won a regional championship at the National Trial Competition. Lewis was also named the tournament’s Best Advocate. The second team representing UGA, comprised of third-year students Molly Laughlin and Max Miseyko, finished as regional semifinalists.

Fifth Straight Victory:  Florida/Georgia-Hulsey/Gambrell Moot Court Competition

UGA defeated the University of Florida in the 2022 Florida/Georgia-Hulsey/Gambrell Moot Court Competition. Representing the School of Law in the tournament were third-year law students Rachel Byers (right) and Jack Mahon. This win added to UGA’s outstanding performances by recording the school’s fifth straight victory and bringing UGA’s overall tournament record to 27-11-2.

 

Negotiation team finishes as finalists in Magnolia Cup, graduating members judge international tournament

Second-year students Anna E. Von Spakovsky and Sara M. Young placed as finalists in the 2023 Magnolia Cup negotiation tournament at the University of Mississippi School of Law. Their teammates, second-year students Zoe K. Taylor and Katie F. Wooten, were semifinalists.

The Magnolia Cup is a national competition that provides students an opportunity to demonstrate deal-making skills as they negotiate simulated transactions with counterparts from other law schools.

Additionally, third-year students Taylor F. McClain, Frank G. Lumpkin IV and Archie L. Wilson served as judges in the Transatlantic Negotiation Competition, a tournament that Syracuse University College of Law and Queen’s University Belfast organize using video conferencing technology to permit teams from Europe and the United States to negotiate in an international setting.

With new Faculty Coach Daniel S. Serviansky, the negotiations team is celebrating its 15th year of competitions. The team holds an intramural competition every fall to select new members to represent UGA.
